Employer Supported Volunteering during Volunteers’ Week 2024 – Humankind

Employer Supported Volunteering during Volunteers’ Week 2024

A reflection on launching our new ESV offer during Volunteers' Week 2024 - looking at the added value of corporate volunteering days.

Deciding to launch our new Employer Supported Volunteering (ESV) offer in Volunteers’ Week felt like a perfect fit – and we are grateful that two organisations, Archer Resourcing and We Are With You, reached out to work alongside us on this. Over the week we had 4 individuals come and volunteer across 2 regions, resulting in 22 hours of added value to Humankind.

On Tuesday 4 June, two recruiters from Archer Resourcing came along to our Haringey services in London to improve their outdoor space just in time for summer. Humankind currently works with Archer Resourcing, and they said that their main motivation for reaching out to volunteer was “to give a little back to the service, it felt good to give some support that was not business related!”

Jamie and Luke instantly got stuck in on the day, pressure washing the concrete, weeding and planting bright new flowers to dot around the area. After they left, a staff member from the service contacted me to say that “their positivity and can-do attitude was shining through, and they are always very welcome here. It’s all about team collaboration and it was nice getting to know each other through volunteering activities.” Thank you both for your efforts!

On Friday 7 June, two workers from Rotherham Drug & Alcohol Services (ROAD) went to The Greens, a Sheffield home providing accommodation for people who are in recovery from drug or alcohol use. One of the workers, Lucy, completed her student placement at Humankind before staying on to volunteer whilst looking for employment – it was lovely to see that she reached out to continue supporting us through ESV.

Lucy and Lucy transformed The Greens by working with staff and residents to spruce up their mindfulness garden and decorate the accommodation for both Pride month and the Euros. Staff members at The Greens point out how successful these days are for improving confidence within their residents, with one resident stating that “it was fantastic to join in and get to know people, I really enjoyed helping out.” Thank you to We Are With You for the support.

Overall, both the organisations and Humankind services rated the organisation of the ESV day as ‘Excellent’, and everyone involved fed back that they would be happy to be involved in another volunteering activity like this. Humankind is excited to welcome more Employer Supported Volunteers in the coming months – if you would like to get involved, please contact esv@humankindcharity.org.uk
