We are looking for people on an ongoing basis to have a local presence throughout Barnsley so that there are less barriers to individuals wanting to seek support, ask questions or engage in training linked to alcohol and other drugs.

Meet & Greet Volunteer

Duties as part of this role include:

  • Provide a welcoming meet and greet service to people attending STARS
  • Answer internal phone calls
  • Replenish leaflets / resources
  • Create and maintain displays in the waiting area / rooms
  • Copying / printing resources for colleagues

Recovery Support Volunteer – Reach North

The role of Recovery Support Volunteer is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about all aspects of the service. This role will be based in Blandford, sitting within the North Dorset team. It is a front-line role and as you progress, you will have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of activities that may include;

  • Welcoming and helping to put people at ease, offering a hot drink and a chat or through helping to facilitate our ‘Flourish Cafes’
  • Being the first point of contact for a person reaching out and asking for support for themselves or a loved one, face to face or via the phone
  • Co-facilitating groups
  • Making welfare calls to people we support
  • As you gain experience and confidence, you may move on to offering one to one support to individuals, supporting and empowering them to identify and achieve their recovery goals

Volunteer – Young People’s Outreach Facilitator

The aim of this role is to support the team to build relationships with schools and youth centres in the borough and to deliver assemblies and workshops alongside a staff member or volunteer.  We’re especially keen to hear from young adults who have been affected by substance use and / or other issues that face young people today, who have taken positive steps they can share.

Volunteer Group Co-Facilitator

This role involves assisting the team of an established drugs and alcohol recovery service to support people who are in recovery in group settings.  The aim of these groups is to build networks of support and build upon recovery and the skills and resilience to sustain it.  Examples of groups a volunteer could support are: Men’s / Women’s Group, SMART Recovery, Getting Better Growing Stronger.
